Kollbrunn belongs to the municipality of Zell but sits right on the city boundary of Winterthur. With around 3,000 inhabitants it is the largest village in the municipality: the local administration, the upper school and the swimming pool are all here. It is the Töss valley, but it is not a hamlet — and you notice that in daily life.

Getting around

Kollbrunn station is on the Töss valley line, with the S26 running to Winterthur every half hour. Winterthur Seen is five minutes away and the main station about ten, where you connect directly to Zurich and the airport. At peak times the S11 stops here too. By car you reach the A1 via the Winterthur-Töss junction, and a PostAuto route connects Kollbrunn with Fehraltorf.

Shopping and everyday life

Kollbrunn is one of the few Töss valley villages where you genuinely have everything you need on site: both Migros and Coop are here, along with the usual services. People come here from the neighbouring villages to shop, not the other way round. The village centre is compact and everything is walkable.

Our rooms on Dorfstrasse

The available rooms are on Dorfstrasse in the middle of the village centre, within walking distance of the station. The fittings are the same as everywhere with us: a large bed with a new mattress, wardrobe, desk, chair and shelf are already in the room, the kitchen is shared, washing machine and dryer are in the building, and there is a place for your bike.

What you get here and not in the centre or Seen

Around 160 francs a month that stay in your pocket. And forest that starts behind the house rather than after a bus ride.

• Compared to the city centre: You pay the least of anything we offer and live quietly for it. The price is about ten minutes on the train and a glance at the timetable when you go out.
• Compared to Seen: Another 110 francs cheaper, and instead of the city edge you get the real Töss valley: the river, fields, hiking trails into the Zurich Oberland. In return you are no longer in the city of Winterthur but in the municipality of Zell.

Who Kollbrunn suits

Kollbrunn is your place if ten minutes on the train matter less to you than quiet, greenery and rent. If you work in Winterthur and still want an affordable room, this is the best compromise we have. If you are in town almost every evening, the timetable will annoy you — take a room in the centre instead.
